The Age of Unstability
Remarks on past, present and future
In this phase of globalized world one of the main question is the relationship between stability and unstability of the ecological, economical, social, political, cultural situation and personal status. Stability is only a temporary suspension of unstability (Niklas Luhman). So, the world was, is and will be a continuous variability and movement. Nowadays, the process of changes is very quick all over the world and what is more: it is accelerating. That means that the past fullness of crisis and the unstable present ecological, social, political, economical, and moral situation will be followed by an uncertain conflictual future.
Analyzing on the one hand some very important works on past, present and future of mankind, and on the other some material demographical, social, economical, and political processes, we could state that in the globalized world absolute values and relationships are gradually disappearing. In the post-modern era relativity is penetrating everything, permanent forms of life are perishing, the Erlebnisgesellschaft (Gerhard Schulze) is bringing into vogue. At the same time in the information age time is becoming narrow but at the same time at a world-wide dimension.
Changes are first of all demographical, economical and ecological.
These three spheres are in close connection , increasing influence each other. After a relatively stable period the human world was definitely influenced by the unstability as aftermath of the great wars of 20th century. For a long time changes in society were composed by the alternance of stability and unstability. But we can see the presence of unstability in 20th century when extremist parties in Europe (of the left or right) and global wars penetrated the everyday life of people. It is also present the phenomenon of international terrorism. Thus, it seems that now it is impossible to return in a stable situation. Global world is under the influence of ecological, social and economical processes strengthener political unstability. In these terms, future of mankind is uncertain. It seems that the world-wide ecological, political and social problems (like demography, poverty, pollution, terrorism, migration, etc.) are not solvable at national levels. Thus, we have to accept the international situation of mutual interdependence and we must to conform our activity to this unstable “liquid modernity” (Zygmunt Bauman).
Acceleration is the main characteristic of the present situation. Thus, we are afraid to witness a relatively quick deterioration of the international relationship (like different types of conflict). So, unstability (palpable in different fields) is not one of the characteristics of this historical period of humanity, but the main and definitive phenomenon of this age. Consciousness of this and the need to do something for changing this situation is a common task for everybody.
The first public presentation of the book was held the 27th Nov. ’14 by the bookshop Örkény István of Budapest, where the Author, Prof. Tibor Szabó, discussed his book with Prof. József Bayer.
